Faith and Values at Semillas

Helping Little Hearts Grow with Jesus

At Semillas Preschool, we know that the toddler years are full of big feelings, first friendships, and important beginnings. During this stage, children are learning who they can trust, how they are loved, and how the world around them works.

This is also when a child’s relationship with God quietly begins.

At Semillas, our Catholic faith is lived in simple, gentle ways that toddlers can understand. We help children discover that Jesus loves them, that He is close to them, and that they are never alone. From there, we guide them to respond in the only way toddlers know how through kindness, imitation, and love.

Faith That Feels Safe, Loving, and Familiar

For young children, faith is not something explained in long lessons. It is something they feel.

Toddlers learn about God the same way they learn about everything else: through loving relationships, repeated routines, music, and simple words. When a child feels safe, comforted, and respected, they begin to understand something very important — this is what love feels like.

At Semillas, that love points to Jesus.
You may see faith lived out in small moments such as:

  • A teacher greeting your child warmly each morning
  • A simple prayer or song before meals
  • Gentle words when emotions run big
  • Learning to say “thank you” and “I’m sorry”
  • Caring for plants, animals, and classroom materials

These everyday moments help toddlers connect faith with peace, joy, and belonging.

Jesus as a Friend Toddlers Can Know

One of the most important ways we share our Catholic faith is by helping children know Jesus as a loving friend.
Through songs, stories, pictures, and play, toddlers hear simple messages like:

  • “Jesus loves you.”
  • “Jesus is with you.”
  • “Jesus is your friend.”
Children may hug a soft Jesus doll, listen to a short story, or sing a familiar song. These experiences are short, calm, and joyful — just right for little ones.

Our goal is not for toddlers to understand everything, but for them to feel loved and cared for, just as Jesus cares for them.

Momentos de Fe: Little Moments That Matter

Throughout the year, we offer Momentos de Fe — short, special moments that help introduce children to God in a loving way.
These moments might include:

  • Thanking God for the world He created
  • Learning that God sends angels to protect us
  • Celebrating the birth of Jesus at Christmas
  • Knowing Mary as a loving mother who cares for us
  • Learning that prayer is simply talking to God

They are brief, calm, and always age-appropriate, fitting naturally into the day.

Faith Grows Alongside Emotional Development

Toddlers are learning how to name feelings, wait their turn, and care about others. Our Catholic values support this growth.
Faith is lived through:

  • Gentle guidance during conflicts
  • Learning to take turns and share
  • Saying kind words to friends
  • Practicing gratitude
  • Finding calm after big emotions

These experiences help children grow not only emotionally, but spiritually too.

Quiet Moments for Calm and Comfort

Toddlers need moments of rest and calm. At Semillas, we intentionally slow down.

Soft music, quiet prayer gestures, and peaceful transitions help children feel grounded and safe. These moments also gently introduce prayer as something comforting and familiar.

Growing Faith Together with Families

We believe faith grows best when school and family walk together.

Through Momentos de Fe and daily communication, families are invited to continue simple faith moments at home — a short prayer before bed, saying thank you for the day, or talking about Jesus as a loving friend.

There is no pressure, only invitation.

Planting Seeds That Grow Over Time

At Semillas, faith is offered with joy, patience, and love. We trust that what is planted gently in the toddler years will grow in time.

By helping children feel loved by Jesus and secure in God’s care, we nurture little hearts that are open, trusting, and ready to love others.
